During the New York period, the Chinese Department broadcasted eight hours a day, in five Chinese dialects and once in Mongolian. In September 1994, the Chinese Department of VOA started broadcasting Chinese-language TV programs on satellite channels and radio. In July 1999, VOA Chinese Network was launched.
